Enjoy!

see me at my desk,
rested and well dressed
always there on time
funny how the clock
that i used to watch
now never seems to mind
tried hard to collect
interest and respect
by cutting out some things
i thought didn't matter
turned all of my whines into "doing fines"
it saves me so much time

i'm stuck in a square, becoming one too
three stories above i hear there's a view
long way to the ground
but i'll probably stick around

now i've got a view
miles to the ocean
but i can't see you and maintain devotion
i wish i could say, "i'll be there"

and slowly the stories start to unbind
and tell me the years spent never were mine
i'm always to owe a debt to my heart
unless i can find a way to restart and take control

slowly the edge gets closer to you
you've got the most space with the greatest of views
you've paid off the debt you owe to your heart
you've paid off the debt, now go and restart

[Verse 1]
I almost forgot about the game
That we used to play
When we had younger hearts
We could not say a word
But in the silence it would spark
And your eyes into mine became my favorite part
And I remember all the ways
I thought I could say what my mouth could not
And it began there with a mark
And the plan to win and make you break became my art
And I come back for you again

[Pre-Chorus]
It feels right in line with summer nights
Cause they go a long way
It feels right in line with summer nights

[Chorus]
Do you remember then?
And can you feel it now?
Just say those simple words
And give me the lift, you know
I get high from only you
Ooh, I love, I love the simple things you do

[Verse 2]
I almost forgot about the time
We both drank the wine and my speech would slur
Another party weekend dime
We stayed up talking 'til first light
And then you gave me one last sigh
I won’t forget just what you said
We're both in our heads
Trying to get into our heats
And then connect them back again
It doesn't have to be that hard

[Chorus]
Do you remember then?
And can you feel it now?
Just say those simple words
It gives me the lift, you know
I get high from only
You in my heart, you in my arms
Open, always open then I’m hoping
And I'm holding baby

[Bridge]
Our words get in the way, dear
Our words get in the way, dear
Our hearts, no fear

[Pre-Chorus]
It feels right in line every time

[Chorus]
Do you remember then?
And can you feel it now?
Just say those simple words
And give me your love, give me your love
Uh-oh baby
Do you remember then?
And can you feel it now?
Just say those simple words
It gives me the lift, you know
I get high from only you
Ooh, I love, I love the simple things you do

[Outro]
It feels right in line with summer nights, cause they go a long way
It feels right in line with autumn nights, cause they go a long way
It feels right in line with winter nights, cause they go a long way

We write to apologize.
We ask to look past life as it goes by.
I know you have sacrificed time,
life, love, time to fly.
Please consider all things trite,
forgiveness will be the thing that gets us by.
I know to have something like this
broken is hard to fix.

Embers, we're burning bridges down.
Envelopes stuffed with feelings found.
To write this down as means to reconcile.

We write to patch things up,
maybe not to agree but to proclaim love.
Let's look ahead and then we'll see the One
whose glory never ends.
And based on that we'll see,
there'll be room for change, but gradually.
I know to have something like this
broken is hard to fix.

If all is said and done and over,
if we don't have to, we're not going to.
Make the change, it's worth the try.
What's broken can be fixed tonight.

There's plenty of time left tonight
I promised I'd have you home before daylight
We do the best we can in a small town
Act like big city kids when the sun goes down

If it's not too late for coffee
I'll be at your place in ten
We'll hit that all night diner
And then we'll see

There's so many things I have to say
I'll stay up all night to hear about your day
We do the best we can in a small town
Act like kids in love when the sun goes down

If it's not too late for coffee
I'll be at your place in ten
We'll hit that all night diner
And then we'll see

There's a love that transcends
All that we've known of ourselves
And I'll wait for it to come
I'll wait for it to come
Well it's got to be strong to touch my heart
Through its shell
And I'll wait for it to come
I'll wait for it to come

If it's not too late for coffee
I'll be at your place in ten
We'll hit that all night diner
And then we'll see

There's a love that transcends
All that we've known of ourselves
And I'll wait for it to come
I'll wait for it to come
Well it's got to be strong to touch my heart
Through its shell
And I'll wait for it to come
I'll wait for it to come down

Hope dangles on a string
Like slow-spinning redemption
Winding in, and winding out
The shine of it has caught my eye

And roped me in so mesmerizing
So hypnotizing
I am captivated
I am

Vindicated, I am selfish, I am wrong
I am right, I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed
But I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now
The things you swore you saw yourself

So clear, like the diamond in your ring
Cut to mirror your intention
Oversized, and overwhelmed
The shine of which has caught my eye

And rendered me so isolated
So motivated
I am certain now that
I am

Vindicated, I am selfish, I am wrong
I am right, I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed
But I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now
The things you swore you saw yourself

So turn up the corners of your lips
Part them and feel my fingertips
Trace the moment, fall forever
Defense is paper-thin
Just one touch, and I'd been in
Too deep now to ever swim against the current

So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip against the current

So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away
So let me slip away

Vindicated, I am selfish, I am wrong
I am right, I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed
But I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now
The things you swore you saw yourself

Like hope dangles on a string
Like slow-spinning redemption

Bits and Pieces

The people who open up to you, those who show you who they truly are, all the bits and pieces of themselves, those who never care about how silly and simple you are, the ones who have seen you without makeup, in your pj's, in your "about to sleep" or "just woke up" face... never take them for granted.

Whenever I get sad, upset, anxious or angry, I remember the stories a good friend of mine told me, to help lift my spirits, and how he motivated and hyped me up whenever I had doubts. When I'm happy, I'm reminded of the good times.

But I effed up.
